Kitchen Cabinets in Islamabad: Designs, Materials & Cost Guide 2026
Introduction
Choosing kitchen cabinets in Islamabad involves more than finding a colour you like. The cabinet body, visible doors, finish, hinges and installation details all shape how the kitchen works and what it costs. A glossy door can look similar in two showrooms while hiding a very different board underneath.
This 2026 guide explains the main material choices, practical design directions and the questions behind a per-square-foot price. Use the comparison tables as a starting point for your budget, then ask for a measured specification for your own room. Published market references below are not Furniture Sukoon prices or a fixed quotation.

Kitchen cabinet materials: what are you actually buying?
Separate three decisions in the quotation: the carcass (the cabinet box and shelves), the fronts (doors and drawer faces), and the surface finish. MDF and plywood are board materials. Laminate, acrylic and paint describe surfaces applied to a supporting material. A kitchen can combine more than one board and finish, so ask for each component to be named.
MDF: a smooth base for painted and decorative fronts
Medium-density fibreboard is made from bonded wood fibres. Its even surface is useful when you want a painted look or a shaped door profile without visible natural grain. Request the exact board grade and thickness rather than accepting “MDF” as the complete specification.
Standard MDF and moisture-resistant MDF are different products. The manufacturer of MEDITE MR identifies its board for humid interiors such as kitchens, while explicitly advising that it is not waterproof. Protect cut edges and address leaks; a moisture-resistant label does not make a sink cabinet safe to leave wet.
Plywood: layered wood for cabinet construction
Plywood consists of thin wood veneers bonded together with alternating grain directions. Its performance depends on the veneer quality, adhesive bond, thickness and construction. Ask to see a sample edge and the product specification, especially for cabinets around plumbing.
Do not assume that every sheet sold as plywood has the same moisture performance, or that plywood is automatically termite-proof. The grade and workmanship matter. For a comparison of local cost references, see the MDF and plywood table below.
Particleboard and melamine-faced board
Particleboard uses bonded wood particles rather than MDF’s finer fibres. A melamine-faced board has a decorative surface bonded to a core, often particleboard or MDF. Check the core name separately from the surface name. Board thickness, shelf spans, edge finishing and the condition of fixing points should be agreed before ordering.
This can be a cost-focused option to discuss for cabinet interiors, but obtain a product-specific quotation. A finish sample on its own cannot tell you how the finished cabinet will be constructed.
Laminate, acrylic and UV finishes
Laminate offers a decorative surface in plain colours and wood-effect patterns. Acrylic-faced fronts are often chosen for a smooth contemporary appearance; both the finish and its supporting board need to be specified. UV refers to a curing process for a coating, so “UV kitchen” is also incomplete as a material specification.
Compare physical samples under your kitchen lighting. Check how fingerprints, reflections and visible edges look, and request cleaning instructions for the exact product. Ask whether the quoted finish covers both faces, exposed ends and matching panels.
Solid wood and veneer
Solid wood fronts use timber; veneer is a thin layer of real wood bonded to a supporting core. They are different constructions even when the visible grain looks similar. Ask for the timber species, finish, core where relevant, and provisions for natural movement. Costs depend heavily on those choices, so these options need an individual quote rather than an invented universal rate.
Kitchen cabinet material and cost comparison
Price reference checked: 13 September 2026. These are third-party published Pakistan figures, not a surveyed Islamabad average or Furniture Sukoon’s rate card. Their board brands, measurement rules and inclusions are not fully standardized. Confirm cabinet elevation area, board grade, finish, hardware and installation scope before using a figure in your own budget.
| Material | Raw material reference | Published material + labour total | Main difference to discuss |
|---|---|---|---|
| MDF cabinets | 800–1,100 | 3,400–4,900 | Smooth board for decorative finishes; specify standard or moisture-resistant grade. |
| Plywood cabinets | 1,600–2,200 | 5,650–7,550 | Layered wood construction; specify thickness, veneer quality and adhesive grade. |
| Particleboard / melamine-faced board | Product-specific quote | Product-specific quote | Identify the core, edge treatment and cabinet fittings. |
| Solid wood or veneered fronts | Species-specific quote | Specification-specific quote | Confirm timber species, supporting core where used, and finish. |

Finish cost references: keep these separate from complete cabinet rates
| Finish option | Published material-cost reference | What to clarify |
|---|---|---|
| Laminate | 800–1,500 | Sheet/core specification, edge work and installation inclusions. |
| Acrylic | 2,200–2,800 | Acrylic product, supporting board, both-face treatment and edge finish. |

For another local reference, Woodixa’s Islamabad/Rawalpindi kitchen listings advertise models from PKR 2,900 to 5,500 per sq. ft. The listed models offer varying configurations; that range does not establish a price for a specific material. The variation illustrates why a written specification matters more than comparing headline rates alone.
How to turn a rate into a useful budget
First agree what “square foot” means with the supplier. Room floor area, cabinet front elevation area and running feet are different measurements. Ask for base units, wall units and tall cabinets to appear separately, along with any minimum charges.
Illustrative calculation: if your agreed billable cabinet elevation area is 60 sq. ft. and your written cabinet rate is PKR 4,000 per sq. ft., the cabinet subtotal is PKR 240,000. This is arithmetic only, not a quotation. Add separately quoted worktops, appliances, sink, plumbing, electrical changes, removal, delivery, taxes and other excluded work. Never multiply a room’s floor area by a cabinet rate without checking the measurement basis.
Kitchen cabinet designs to consider in Islamabad
Straight or L-shaped cabinets for a compact room
Start by drawing the door, window, refrigerator and sink positions. A single run can keep a narrow room straightforward; an L-shaped arrangement can distribute cabinets along two walls. Check every drawer and appliance door in the open position before deciding how much storage fits. Our small kitchen planning guide goes deeper into layout and storage.
U-shaped layouts and tall pantry storage
Three working sides can provide storage, but corners and access need a deliberate plan. A tall pantry may replace several small cupboards, depending on your room. Place frequently used items within easy reach and compare usable internal space before paying for extra mechanisms.
Two-tone, wood-effect and simple contemporary fronts
Try warm wood-effect lower units with light upper fronts, a consistent matte colour, or restrained framed doors. Bring the cabinet sample beside your planned worktop and wall finish. Choose a combination you like in your own light, rather than assuming a photograph will look identical in the room.
Handleless doors and islands
For a handleless look, ask how the door actually opens: an integrated pull, a recessed rail or a push mechanism. Test a sample with normal kitchen use in mind. An island should be considered only after movement space and appliance access work on a measured drawing.

Frequently asked questions
What do kitchen cabinets cost in Islamabad in 2026?
There is no single rate for every kitchen. The published references above show different prices and scopes; your own cost depends on measured cabinet area, materials, finish, fittings and installation. Request a line-by-line quotation before setting the final budget.
Is MDF or plywood better for my kitchen?
Compare the exact products and the job each panel will do. MDF offers a smooth base for decorative fronts; plywood uses layered wood construction. For either choice, ask about grade, edge protection, fixing details and the sink area. Material name alone is not a guarantee of performance.
Are acrylic kitchen cabinets made entirely from acrylic?
Usually the term describes an acrylic-faced surface on a supporting board. Ask what that board is and what is used for the cabinet body, backs and shelves.
Does moisture-resistant MDF mean waterproof?
No. For example, MEDITE’s MR product information distinguishes humid interior use from waterproof performance. Repair leaks promptly and follow the selected board and finish manufacturer’s care instructions.
What should I send to get a kitchen quotation?
Send your Islamabad location, approximate wall dimensions, clear room photos, appliance details, preferred designs and budget range. Final fabrication should follow approved measurements and a written specification.
